Sub-Saharan Africa Coastal Cities Flood Risk Profile for Greater Monrovia

Monrovia faces multitude challenges affecting prosperity include threats posed by rain, river and coastal flooding, which may be exacerbated by future climate change, population growth and unplanned urban development.

The FRP project is providing improved knowledge and understanding of flood risk in Greater Monrovia and that can integrate with the World Bank urban development and resilience strategy for the region.

iLab Liberia and its partner Deltares are employing models (Delft3D Flexible Mesh or SFINCS) and Delft-FIAT (Flood Impact Assessment Tool) to develop a profile on Monrovia in consultation with key stakeholders to understand the flooding events and impact on local people, especially the most marginalised.
